The 1st National Conference on Industrial Engineering (NCIE-2011) is being organized by the Department of Industrial Engineering & Management at West Bengal University of Technology, Kolkata India. The focus of the conference is on recent advances in the area of Industrial Engineering & Management in improving the productivity of industrial firms.

West Bengal University of Technology (WBUT)
In West Bengal, the apex body for affiliation to the private as well as government technological colleges was created to act as overseer of quality technical education in the above institutions, named West Bengal University of Technology (WBUT) under the West Bengal Act XV of 2000 passed by the West Bengal Legislature. The University is in Section 2F and also in Section 12B of UGC and a recipient of UGC grant. The University offers in-house PG and Doctoral programmes in several disciplines of Engineering & Technology besides two UG courses. This conference is being organised by the IEM Department of the University that runs the M. Tech course in Industrial Engineering & Management.

NPC, under Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Govt. of India, is national level organization to promote productivity culture in India. Established as a Registered Society in 1958, It is an autonomous, multi-partite, non-profit organization with equal representation from employers' & workers' organizations and Government, apart from technical & professional institutions and other interests. NPC is a constituent of the Tokyo-based Asian Productivity Organization (APO), an Inter-Governmental Body, of which the Government of India is a founder member.The Union Minister for Industry is the President of the NPC, and the Secretary (Industrial Policy and Promotion) is its Chairman. The Director General is the CEO. NPC has 13 Regional Offices, located in major State Capitals/industrial centres with Corporate Headquarters in New Delhi and has a strength of around 150 full time professional / consultants. In addition, services of outside specialists and faculty are also enlisted on projects based on requirements.
2. State Productivity Council, West Bengal
State Productivity Council-West Bengal (SPC-WB), formerly known as Calcutta Productivity Council is the pioneer organization in the field of consultancy and training established jointly by Govt. of India through National Productivity Council and State Government under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860. It is an autonomous body, multipartite in its constitution with State Chief Minister as its Ex-Officio President. It is aided by Government of West Bengal and Central Government. It has been formed primarily to provide a forum for co-operation among Labour Management, Government and Professional Specialists from various professional institutions for the purpose of achieving higher efficiency and productivity in all walks of life in this region of the country.
